World Cup Quarter Finals Predictions

Thursday, July 1, 2010

What's up guys? We've had a two day break from the World Cup as the teams remaining in the tournament need to rest up before the Quarter Finals that resume tomorrow morning.  I've had some time to review matches, scores and other factors that may affect the games tomorrow and Saturday so here are my predictions.

Ghana v Uruguay

Prediction: Ghana 2-1 Uruguay

Why: Ghana is the last African team left in the tournament, so of course they are going to win. Just kidding. Seriously, Uruguay has performed very well this tournament, but their defense is yet to be tested in my opinion.  In order for Ghana to win they must shut down Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez.  How will they do this? Forlan has to be closed down quickly and not permitted too much space; we saw what he did to S. Africa when they left him a yard of space.  As for Luis Suarez they have to prevent him from getting in behind defenders because he is very good at doing so.

Netherlands v Brazil

Prediction: Brazil 2-2 Netherlands. Netherlands advance on penalties

Why: They are both very quality sides with immense talent.  M. Bastos is the left back and he fancies going forward so I think the Oranje will be able to catch Brazil on a counter attack spearheaded by Arjen Robben.  It won't happen twice, though.  I presume the Netherlands' 2nd goal will come from Dirk Kuyt.  Fabiano gets one and Kaka gets the other.

I'm still contemplating long and hard about the Argentina v Germany game, but I think Germany will edge out Messi and co.  Check back for more on that.

Spain v Paraguay

Prediction: Spain 4-1 Paraguay

Why: Nobody has figured out how to stop David Villa.

What are your predictions??

    Ghana vs. Uruguay.
-I see no reason y the black stars would not beat Forlan and his people. Stopping Diego and Suarez are the PRIME objectives..their downfall would be behaving like true African by loosening up their game. Other than that, Ghana should have this.

    Netherlands vs. Brazil
hahah....May the best team win. Even if i do have my money on Robinho and his people. I don't see Kaka scoring though. I think it would be Robinho and Fabiano.

    Spain vs. Paraguay

4-1 may be too much. But i do see Villa scoring 2...maybe. I believe this is going to be Torres' game. He has too much to prove.

    Chima here, signing off!!

    Ghana vs. Uruguay.
    - I have Ghana winning in extra time 1-0. It will be a very defensive match but Ghana's stamina will win it for them.

    Netherlands vs. Brazil.
    - I want Brazil to win but it will be a tough match. For some reason I see a lot of goals being scored in this match. We have to remember that the Netherlands always "chokes" in the World Cup.

    Argentina vs. Germany.
    - This will be the best match of the World Cup IMO, especially with all the words being traded by both teams. Even though Paul the octopus chose Germany to win(he's from Germany so of course he's choosing them). I see Argentina getting the win. The score will be 3-2 in Argentina's favor. Messi will get his first goal of the World Cup also.

    Spain vs. Paraguay.
    - Arguably the easiest game out of the four I also see Spain winning easily. Hopefully Paraguay makes it an interesting match but I don't see them scoring. I will dread hearing Chilavert's commentary on Univision that day.

    Netherlands vs Brazil
    - Tough one to call. Both teams haven't been as convincing as they usually are. Brazil have scored 8 goals already, but they haven't played a team that possesses as much as Holland. But this will play into Brazil's hands as they are really good and live on the counter attack. My heart says Holland, but brain says Brazil.

    Uruguay vs Ghana
    - As mentioned here, Ghana's priority will be stopping the attack trident of Suarez, Forlan and Cavani. But Ghana still haven't impressed me that much yet. Gyan is pretty much their only threat offensively but Uruguay's defense is better than you think. Godin and Lugano(Fenerbahce player, yes i had to plug that lol) are one of the best CB duos at the WC imo. But Ghana are flying Africa's flag which is a huge advantage for them. I still see Uruguay taking this.

    Germany vs Argentina
    - Germany still play traditional German football; efficient, direct, defensive but now have a link they have been missing in the past, Mesut Ozil (yes he's Turkish, another plug lol). Germany have been missing a play maker like him, and after this WC expect him to move to a big team, Barca is allready after him. Argentina have been playing great, but I still think there defense is suspect. Demichelis has his durr moments but I think Samuel is back which is a big boost. Last 2 meetings Germany won, so maybe Argentina is due. Too close to call.

    Spain vs Paraguay
    - Earlier Spain score, the easier the match will be. Spain will attack often and early to disrupt Paraguay. If Paraguay can hold on they have a slight chance but honestly i just see Spain winning this pretty comfortably.
